Program Description | The comprehensive 60-credit online MSW program at this historically Black college prepares students for all the challenges and rewards of social work practice as an Advanced Generalist. With a focus on diversity and social justice, students learn to become ethical practitioners of social work with individuals, groups and communities. The Advanced Generalist concentration is offered. All courses are asynchronous and a practicum is required. |
What will I Learn?
The emphasis throughout the program is ethical professionalism within an approach that centers economic, environmental and social justice. Students learn. to engage with issues of diversity, difference, and human rights. Practice approaches taught are grounded in evidence, and students learn skills of research, evaluation and assessment. Students graduate from the program with the ability to serve individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations.
Required courses include two courses on Policies and Services in Social Welfare, accompanied by two courses on Human Behavior and the Social Environment. Practice approaches are taught in Generalist Practice I & II, while students learn to ground their practice in evidence through taking Research and Evaluation Methods I & II. The required practicum is accompanied by four required Field Practicum courses, and complemented by four required courses in Advanced Generalist Practice. Specific methods and theory are taught in Theories of Personality and Adult Psychopathology and Advanced Generalist Practice in a Public Health Context. Students learn leadership skills in Administration, Management, & Supervision and Practice & Program Evaluation for the Advanced Practitioner.
