What will I Learn?

The area of psychology defined as educational psychology is focused on issues related to learning, such as cognitive processes, the learning environment, the interaction between teachers and students, the process of lifelong learning, and other issues. Schools, colleges, community organizations, research facilities, testing companies, consulting firms, and other employers all employ educational psychologists.

Knowledge of human cognitive, motivational and developmental processes, and their impact in educational settings is at the core of the curriculum. Students will also develop key fundamental research skills including knowledge of statistics, assessment, action research, and other methods.

Students begin the program by studying foundational topics in courses such as Foundations of Human Development for Education, Foundations of Cognition for Education, First Year Scholarship and Training Seminar and Foundations of Motivation for Education. Students gain fundamental skills while taking Methods of Research and Education and Applied Statistical Methods in Education  or Applied Educational Assessment. Students deepen their understanding through coursework in Nurturing Independent Learners and Action Research. As a capstone to the curriculum, students are required to take Applied Project in Educational Psychology.

How much will the program cost?

Within two years, students complete their degree for just over $21,000, or $629 per credit, for a total of 34 credits.

How does the program fit into my life?

Synchronous instruction refers to the delivery of courses online where students log in at the same time as their instructor and classmates. Some courses may be taught asynchronously, which means that participants can complete online exercises at their own pace rather than being compelled to log in at a specific time. Videos of lectures, discussions in groups, practice problems, and other activities might be found in online resources. No on-campus trip is necessary. Every year, the program’s Fall semester is open to new students.
