University of Memphis Online Master of Business Administration

Why University of Memphis?

University of Memphis recruits applicants for its online Master of Business Administration degree program. The program is managed by the Fogelman College of Business at this large public research institution in Memphis, Tennessee.

Applicants’ professional experience and the likelihood of their succeeding in business are both factors to be considered, but there is no hard and fast rule mandating a certain amount of work history as a prerequisite for admission. If your undergraduate GPA was 3.0 or higher, or if you already have a graduate degree, you can skip the GRE and GMAT. There is no needed GPA to apply, but your academic potential and past accomplishments will be taken into account if you are accepted.

What will I Learn?

Beginning with courses such as Financial and Managerial Accounting for Managers and Business Analytics for Managers, students cover basic concepts. Leadership and Negotiation, Economics for the Global Executive, and Global Financial Management are expanded upon. They go more deeply into specific topics such as Global Strategic Marketing, Information Systems in the Global Organization, Supply Chain Operations Management, and Introduction to Business Analytics. In Global Strategic Management Capstone, concepts are consolidated and extended. All students are required to take two electives in the College of Business or another graduate-level field.

There are no concentration areas offered.  However, students can choose to complete a graduate certificate concurrently with the MBA curriculum, which will incur some additional cost. The available certificates are Applied Economic Analytics, Business Economics, Business Information Assurance, Business Project Management, Data Analytics for Management, Data Analytics for Technology, Financial Analysis and Planning, Supply Chain Management and Taxation.

How much will the program cost?

The cost per credit is $606.00, and 36 credits are required. The cost of the complete degree is just under $22,000. Usually students require three years to complete their education.

How does the program fit into my life?

Although there is leeway in the time it takes to earn a degree, most students finish in three years. This curriculum employs a kind of education known as asynchronous learning, hence there are no scheduled weekly courses. Instead, they go through their assignments whenever they have time during the week. Video lectures, assignments, meetings with peers or the teacher, and other forms of practice are all fair game.

Attendance at any on-campus events is optional and not compulsory of participants. This program gives you the flexibility to start whenever it works best for you by offering three start dates every year (in the fall, spring, and summer).

Summary

This highly affordable program provides an accessible and flexible method for working business professionals to enrich their skills and gain credentials. UMemphis offers dedicated career counseling to students through its Professional Development Center (PDC). Applicants may also be attracted to the opportunity to complete one of the available certificate programs concurrently with their online MBA.
